Description:
Did you know the 109 in the name of this Series III Land Rover represents the wheelbase distance in inches (2.77m)? This long wheelbase (LWB) station wagon offers a seating configuration of up to 9 passengers (though legally only 7 here in Singapore), or a boot space large enough to fit all of your camping equipment.
The series Land Rovers were the first four-wheel drive cars ever mass-produced for civilians. Due to post WWII's steel shortage and aluminium surplus, Land Rovers were produced in non-rusting aluminium alloy bodies, favouring its longevity, not forgetting decreased weight and increased fuel economy. The reason behind Land Rovers squarish body design is for a sturdier chassis. All models in this era featured sturdy box-section ladder-frame chassis, contrary to those of conventional cars and trucks.
Although the previous owner left the body and paint of this unit in its original state, much was done mechanically with the engine and gearbox both overhauled, not forgetting many other parts replaced!
